How to play
Section titled “How to play”Open the fitted board to make your moves. How to play in the side tray gives you the same lessons with illustrations inside the game.
Start here
Section titled “Start here”
Black starts. Click an empty crossing to place a stone.
Make space
Section titled “Make space”
Stones touching along a line form a group. Diagonal touches do not count.

A stone stays where it lands. Only captures remove stones.
Count liberties
Section titled “Count liberties”
This stone has one empty neighbour left: the marked point. Diagonals do not count.
Capture
Section titled “Capture”
One empty neighbour remains. Close the last gap.

The surrounded stone is captured and removed.

After a capture, the same shape cannot be taken back at once.

Play one move somewhere else before returning to the ko.
Corners and edges
Section titled “Corners and edges”
A corner needs fewer stones around it. Use the edges wisely.
Finish
Section titled “Finish”
When you are done, pass. Two passes finish the game.

Most stones plus surrounded empty points wins. White gets 7.5 bonus points.
Rules in more detail
Section titled “Rules in more detail”Area scoring and ko
Section titled “Area scoring and ko”The final score counts stones plus empty regions surrounded by one colour. A region touching both colours is neutral. White receives 7.5 komi on every board size; captured-stone totals are not added again to this area score. Simple ko prevents recreating the board from before the opponent’s last move; it is not full-history superko. Two consecutive passes end the game, with every remaining stone treated as alive. Capture dead groups before passing: there is no separate dead-stone agreement stage.
Keep playing
Section titled “Keep playing”Use Rematch after the result to play again. To pause an unfinished match, the table owner can remove and keep its board.
